Introduction to Group Therapy

Healing Together Through Shared Experience and Trauma-Focused Skills Building

Group therapy offers a unique opportunity to learn and heal alongside others who understand what you’re going through. At Summit Psychotherapy Center, our doctoral-level clinicians lead specialized therapeutic groups that combine peer support with evidence-based clinical guidance. In a safe, confidential environment, you’ll learn skills to manage difficult emotions, understand the impacts of trauma in your current life, prepare to process trauma, and build meaningful connections with others on similar healing journeys. Group therapy provides both the power of shared experience and the expertise of specialized trauma clinicians.

What to Expect in Group Therapy?

Your Group Therapy Experience

Initial Assessment

Before joining a group, you’ll meet with a clinician for a free 30 minutes phone screen to ensure the group is a good fit for your needs and goals. Sometimes concurrent individual therapy will be required.

Group Structure

Groups typically meet weekly via telehealth for 90 minutes. Each session includes skills teaching, review of practice exercises, and opportunities to share and process experiences in a confidential, supportive environment.

Skills Learning

You’ll learn evidence-based skills through structured lessons, practice exercises, and homework assignments. Skills are designed to help you navigate trauma symptoms, manage emotions, and improve relationships.

Community Building

Over time, group members develop a sense of community and learn from each other’s experiences. The group becomes a safe space to practice vulnerability and connection.
