Fees & Insurance

Transparent fees and out-of-network care at our Redwood City practice.

How Payment Works at Summit

Summit Psychotherapy Center is an out-of-network practice and does not bill insurance directly. Working outside of insurance lets our clinicians provide individualized, evidence-based care without the session limits and restrictions insurers often impose. Below you will find our current fees, lower-cost options with our supervised clinicians, and the ways we help you use any out-of-network benefits you may have.

Lower-Cost Therapy Options

If you are looking for high-quality care at a lower fee, we offer sessions with clinicians who are completing advanced training under the supervision of our licensed psychologists.

Psychological Associates and Postdoctoral Fellows: $150–$200 per session. These clinicians have earned their doctoral degree in psychology and are accruing supervised hours toward independent licensure. They are supervised by our lead psychologists through a team approach that helps ensure you receive high-quality care.
Doctoral Practicum Students: $50–$60 per session. These clinicians are advanced doctoral trainees providing evidence-based psychotherapy with intensive supervision from our licensed psychologists.

Out-of-Network Reimbursement

While we do not bill insurance directly, many clients receive partial reimbursement through their out-of-network mental health benefits. On request, we will provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend calling your insurer to ask about your out-of-network benefits.

To make reimbursement easier, we have partnered with Mentaya, a service that handles out-of-network claims and helps you recover as much as your plan allows with minimal paperwork.

Mentaya may be a good fit if you:

  Have out-of-network insurance benefits

Feel overwhelmed by submitting superbills or dealing with insurance

Have tried submitting superbills before but struggled to get reimbursed

Would rather skip the paperwork and insurance follow-up

How it works:

Check your eligibility and estimated reimbursement

  Create your Mentaya account

We upload your therapy sessions to the platform

Mentaya submits your claims, manages any insurance follow-up, and your reimbursement comes directly from your insurer

Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, which covers preparing and submitting paperwork, managing denied claims, and communicating with your insurance company on your behalf. The service is risk-free. If they cannot successfully submit your claim, they refund their fee.
